工程绘图课堂讲授笔记
This page hosts the Lecture Notes for a Beginning Engineering Graphics course and an Intermediate Engineering Graphics course, both courses to be taught as a combo at a community college setting. The Beginning Engineering Graphics corresponds to Engineering 51 (Basic Technical Drawing) that I taught at Santa Ana College (2000-2007), a course designed for students with no high school drafting background (this course is based on hand drafting and sketching, plus the basics of AutoCAD drafting tools using a textbook by a community college teacher from Orange County, with easy to follow step-by-step procedures). The Intermediate Engineering Graphics corresponds to Engineering 125 (Engineering Graphics) that I taught at the same school, a course designed for students with some high school drafting background (this course is based on more advanced AutoCAD 2D drafting tools and settings although the first and second weeks are used to practice hand lettering and drafting). Since both courses were taught in the same schedule, lectures and classroom demonstrations had to be delivered in most cases separately but sometimes jointly in order to more effectively use meeting time slots. Therefore, the category of Lecture Notes under the titleFor Both Beginning and Intermediate Engineering Courses Taught Together apply to both courses.
Notice that most of the lectures are to be finished before the midterm. This allows students to learn the basics of all subjects to be covered before they are engaged in more challenging Final Projects. Based on analysis of weekly quizzes, reviews of particular subjects are to be offered along the way or after the midterm. In the second half of the semester, students in the Beginning Engineering Graphics course are to create a picture of a mechanical device or a house using simple AutoCAD tools, and students in the Intermediate Engineering Graphics course could either design a simple device and create orthographic three views plus an isometric view individually, or joint other students to work as a group, learn the basics of Autodesk Inventor and design a simple product (such as a candle holder or a bird house) with several part files, one assembly file and several drawing files, in the last four weeks of the semester. Therefore, the schedule integrate the essential knowledge with project-based learning, and is flexible to allow more advanced students to follow through fast and those left behind to have enough time to catch up through personalized tutoring.
College instructors and students are welcome to give feedbacks on the above-mentioned materials.
